Hello friends, and blessings for tonight's Full Moon in Gemini!
This is an extra powerful Full Moon, because it's a particularly large Supermoon (when the Full Moon coincides with the Moon's closest point to Earth in her monthly orbit). So the Moon will appear a bit bigger, and definitely a bit brighter than usual full moons.
Gemini's ruling planet is Mercury, who aligns with the Roman god Mercury, the Greek god Hermes, and the Egyptian god Thoth. Mercury / Hermes is the messenger of the gods - carrying messages between Olympus and Earth, between gods and mortals, and between the gods themselves. He flits around with wings on his heals, wearing his winged helmut, moving easily between the realms of Earth, Sky and Underworld. He's funny, quick witted, and very adaptable.
As the god of travel, he often turns up at train stations and other travel hubs. Here's a statue of Mercury at Grand Central Station in New York!
So, with the energies of both travel and communication highlighted by this gorgeous Full Moon, I thought I'd take this opportunity to send you a quick message before I head off on my Australian tour on Monday!
WHY I LOVE TRAVEL
I was born when the Moon was in the sign of Gemini, ( 0 degrees Gemini, exactly opposite my 0 degrees Sagittarius Mercury, for those of you who are astrologically inclined). I think this is one of the reasons that I have such a passion for both learning, and for travel. And the two really inform each other. Every time that I set out on a journey, I know that I am leaping into the unknown. Even if it's somewhere that I've been before, I'm going to encounter people that I've never met, things that I've never seen, and often trials that I've never had to navigate before. The combination of travel weariness and jet lag can bring about an altered state that I find genuinely liberating and creative. Travel shakes me up, helps me to shift out of self created ruts. It opens my eyes, my mind and my heart.
Even with all the touring that I do, I still get a bit nervous before a big trip. Will I get to the airport ok? Will the flights be on time? Have I triple checked dates and times and tickets? But once I'm in the air - especially on that long haul flight - more often than not I just relax into the journey. Yep, even when I'm squeezed into my economy seat! What a privelage to journey, in the space of a day, from Winter to Summer, from Northern Hemisphere to Southern. I find the shift exhilarating.
But before I was able to travel internationally, (my first trip to the Northern Hemisphere wasn't until I was 34!), I still relished the opportunity to travel. I've always loved road trips and train journeys. In fact, I was completely obsessed with trains when I was a kid, and had a fantastic train set. So yeah, I have travel in my blood - which suits my choice of career as a troubadour very well!
