Latest News
It's already early May, and I'll be leaving next week for the first of my two international tours for the year. I'll be spending May and June in the USA and Europe, and then will return to the USA from September to November. When I'm overseas, it's tricky for me to update this site, so please keep an eye on my Myspace page for up to date concert info.
What a magical year it has been so far. Not only have I completed three Australian interstate tours, but I've also been writing and creating with a force that I haven't felt in years. The muses are being kind to me, and I'm doing my utmost to honour their call.
The two collaborations that I've been working on - my theatrtical production Persephone with Elissa Goodrich, and my dark ambient album Beneath the Below is a River with Craig Patterson, are moving along nicely. We had the frsit showing of the musical componant for Persephone last week, and it was a great success. A full house, and lots of positive feedback. Elissa and I will now prepare another draft, rewriting the parts that we felt needed work (which of course was the whole intention behind performing the first draft), and preparing for a full scale production next year.
Beneath the Blow is a River is almost complete. We've finished mastering, and are just preparing the artwork. We will release it when I return from tour in August. In the mean time, the title track is up on my Myspace site for you to download.
I'm also writing songs for my next major album, Guided By Venus, and will perform some of my newer songs on this tour.
And of course, there's my ongoing and dedicated work as a Witch. My classes for July, August and September are already fully booked. I'll be running another eight week course in Melbourne in February next year. This one will be for women only. Please email me if you are interested. Places are very limited.. Persephone
I'm currently writing a theatrical project called Persphone. It's based on the ancient Greek myth of Persephone and Demeter. Many of you may remember a play that a wrote and produced in 1999 called An Underworld Journey. This new project explores similar themes ( I am a Scorpio, after all!) but journeys much deeper with them. The project is a collaboration with my friend Elissa Goodrich, the vibraphone player/ percussionist that has appeared on many of my albums and often plays live with me.The music is a mixture of soundscape and song, and is all written specifically for the project. We've now completed a first draft and performance, and will spend the rest of the year reworking and expanding on what we have created, with the aim of a finished production next year.
Beneath the Below is a River
After creating the music for the film Hugo late last year (see below), Craig and I were so pleased wth the results that we decided to expand the project into a full album..We are very near completion, and hope to launch the album in August this year ( 2008). The album is a soundtrack to a dark dreamscape - moody and underworld, but deeply soothing, and of coruse it features the beautiful cello of Rachel Samuel. The main difference that this side project has from my solo work is the (almost) complete lack of lyrics. I'll have samples to put up on the site very soon.
Film Soundtrack for Hugo
Late last year my friend Craig Patterson and I composed and recorded the score for a short film called Hugo.It's a gorgeous movie, a dark fariy tale about a Moth Boy and is directed by Nicholas Verso, who has created many of my film clips.Craig and I have worked together for many years and he featured on the first of my 3 albums. It's been incredibly rewarding working with him again. Hugo had its first screening in January at The Australian Centre for the Moving Image ( ACMI) cinema in Melbourne, to a full and appreciative house. Witchcraft Workshops
Throughout the year, I run 8 week courses on Witchcraft. My aim is to remind people that Magic is all around them, and to help re connect with Nature and our inner wisdom.
My next series of introductory Witchcraft workshops will begin in February 2009 in Melbourne.
